I missed a big event from Microsoft in passed 2 days since I was busy on our business project. I forgot the event date. so, I missed the big news from Microsoft. I just realized Microsoft took .NET open source, and released Visual Studio full feature edition.

Yes, .NET open-sourced to everybody, and Visual Studio is free to everybody now; Also, .NET will be running on Linux and Mac systems eventually! And, Programmers will be able to use Visual Studio to develop Android and Mac projects directly!

In April 2014, Microsoft has already pushed part of .NET products and technologies to open source,. including ASP.NET, Roslyn, VB and C# programming languages. But this time, Microsoft opened full server side .NET Core, .NET CLR (Common Lanuage Runtime), Framework and Library, Also ASP.NET 5… etc.

Check other official websites or tech websites for more details information:

1: .NET Core is Open Source; 2: Microsoft takes .NET open source and cross-platform, … 3: Microsoft vise president of the Developer Division Somasegar’s blog

Free version: Visual Studio Community 2013, it is a full featured IDE, actually, it is just Visual Studio Professional 2013 edition.

Q: How does Visual Studio Community 2013 compare to other Visual Studio editions? A: Visual Studio Community 2013 includes all the great functionality of Visual Studio Professional 2013, designed and optimized for individual developers, students, open source contributors, and small teams. WOW!!
This time the step is BI—–G! So let us watch what will happen in next several years, obviously PHP and Java will NO MORE be first or Has-to be chose languages, even more the .NET and C# is more convenient to develop application, and , more easier to learn.
Some people are discussing about when Microsoft will open source their the biggest and should be the final product – Windows! I think, if there would be some day for Windows open source, the day, it will also be the death beginning day of all other OS systems.
